Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott believes the new signings have brought hunger and desire to the club this season
Harvey Elliott feels that there is ‘hunger and desire’ within Jurgen Klopp’s team that is helping ease the transition to what can be called a new version of Liverpool this season.
New signings Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister have seamlessly adapted to their roles as key midfielders. This was especially important as there was a midfield overhaul this summer.
Last season’s disappointing performance made it clear that new additions were necessary. While the departures of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were expected, the exits of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson came as surprises.
Despite the arrival of four replacements, including Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, the team has shown remarkable resilience this season. They’ve had to come from behind in four out of six fixtures. Elliott, who is also striving for a place in the midfield, credits the squad’s determination for their impressive performance.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, he said:
“This season feels different, the hunger and desire, and we just need to keep putting in these performances and keep coming away with three points. We are just trying to bed [new players] into the team and try to make them feel welcome as quickly as possible and try to show them the Liverpool way.”
The 20-year-old midfielder was correct in highlighting the fact that the Reds are looking completely different than they used to be. Surprisingly, during Liverpool’s Europa League win against LASK, Elliott was the most experienced midfielder in terms of club appearances.
He shared the midfield with Endo and Gravenberch. The English star is already noticing a change in the squad’s attitude, with a renewed determination following the disappointment of the previous season when Liverpool fell short of their usual high standards and missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time in six years.
The new-look team has shown their improvement by staging comebacks at times when it mattered the most. Additionally, they have maintained an unbeaten record, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous campaign, when they struggled to string together a series of matches without a loss until the final couple of months.
Elliott is one of those players who has rediscovered his form, and his performance against LASK was one big example. With his impressive passing abilities from the midfield, he has already set a high standard.
