Micky van de Ven claims Tottenham do not fear Liverpool
Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Mirror, Dutch centre-back Micky van de Ven has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur do not fear Liverpool ahead of their clash in the Premier League this weekend.
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham welcome Liverpool to the N17 this weekend. Both teams are unbeaten in the Premier League and will look to keep that record intact. Ideally, both teams will want to win and the Reds will leave no stone unturned.
For the past few years, this has been a clash that has not really caused Liverpool any major challenges. This is more down to Tottenham’s poor performances than anything else. The team that is playing under Postecoglou is a different beast though.
There have been so many stand-out players for the Lilywhites this season and the entire team has made sure that the club do not miss the exit of Harry Kane, who has joined Bayern Munich. It has been a collective display of grit and excellence.
Much of Tottenham’s good form has been built on the foundation of having a solid first-choice backline. Gone are the days when they had a leaky defence. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven look like they have been playing together for years.
Speaking about the Liverpool clash, Van de Ven exuded confidence never seen before from a Tottenham side and claimed that they do not fear Jurgen Klopp’s men
“I don’t think we have fear for another team. It would be strange if you have fear for another team. If you go into a game and are like ‘what a team they have’ then I don’t think it is positive”
Micky van de Ven is showing the kind of attitude that is generally synonymous with an elite team. The likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid do not go into any game fearing their opposition and this could be the main reason for their success.
Jurgen Klopp has gotten Liverpool playing good football again. Against Tottenham, they will undoubtedly go for the three points but at the back of their minds, they will also know that this will not be an easy proposition.
