Tottenham Hotspur contact Galatasaray for Kerem Akturkoglu amidst Liverpool interest

It feels like Liverpool are linked with left-wingers every other day, with the latest one on the list being Kerem Akturkoglu. It is surprising because the Reds are pretty well covered in that area. It’s the other wing that is actually an issue.

In Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, Liverpool have three of the best left-wingers in the entire league, all at different stages of their career. Yes, the latter two can play in other positions but they are primarily players who love to play on the left-side of attack.

What the Reds must actually be doing is focussing on procuring a natural left-footed right winger who can replace Mohamed Salah in the future. This is imperative as the Egyptian kind might not be around forever.

Coming to the player who they are linked with. Kerem Akturkoglu is not a household name. He is not a player who has garnered much hype in recent times. However, anyone who has even followed Turkish football fleetingly will know that he is one of the highest-rated talents in the league.

According to Turkish outlet Aksam, Tottenham have made first contact with the 24-year-old despite interest from Manchester United and Liverpool. Competition from our rivals always indicates that we are going in for a good player.

The Reds though must stay clear of this signing though. It is not something they need in their team. Reinforcing positions of much more importance should be our priority and the left-wing is not one of them.

Akturkoglu is a very good talent. With five goals and seven assists in just 16 appearances this season, it is very obvious that even the numbers substantiate that. However, he predominantly plays on the left side of the attack.

Being right-footed, unless Jurgen Klopp chooses to play with a system where we use traditional wingers, it is highly unlikely that the Turkish international can play on the right and cover for Salah.
