The dominance on show by Manchester City in the Premier League is not new to anyone, and certainly not Liverpool. After having the title to Pep Guardiola’s men by single a point on two different occasions, this season gives the Reds the perfect opportunity to bite back at their Northwestern rivals according to Jamie Carragher.
However, that can only happen when Pep’s side give any other team the chance to do so. Their utter dominance in the English first tier is a testament to the strength of their squad and the incredibleness of the Spaniard at helm. However, for the first time in a very long time, City have gone on to lose two successive Premier League games, giving other teams a chance of sniffing the title.
Carra is of the belief that Liverpool and even the likes of Arsenal can only think of winning the Premier League title if Manchester City’s troublesome times continue. Manchester City have lost consecutive league matches for the first time since December 2018, last losing three games in a row in the Premier League back in February-March 2016 under Manuel Pellegrini.
Speaking on Arsenal and Liverpool and their chances to win the Premier League, here is what Carra told The Telegraph via Mirror:
“The only way Liverpool – or anyone else – can win the Premier League is if Manchester City wobble,”
“City’s recent defeats by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal have given the rest a glimmer of hope.”
“If Liverpool are in a position to take advantage, that is beyond the pre-season expectations. Arsenal are considered the most likely to pip City. Are Arsenal better than Liverpool? We will know by Christmas.”
In fact, Guardiola has lost three league games in a row just once before in his managerial career – with Bayern Munich in May 2015.
Our run-ins against Man City for the title have certainly not ended in our favour and we can only hope that we sort it out without any help from any other side. Our focus should be on winning the Premier League title instead of ensuring Manchester City do not get their hands on the trophy for a fourth year in a row.
The history of near misses against Manchester City should drive their determination to succeed. Ultimately, whether they emerge as champions depends on their consistency, performance, and ability to seize opportunities presented by City’s challenges.
The Premier League race promises excitement and intrigue, and Liverpool fans will be hoping that this season brings an end to their long-awaited quest for top-flight glory.
