Liverpool and Arsenal keep an eye on Real Madrid superstar Aurelien Tchouameni

Even since before his move from Monaco to Real Madrid, 23-year-old Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni has constantly seen himself linked with a move to Liverpool. That’s not even where it ends, in every transfer window, the Reds see themselves in some report or the other as potential suitors for the player.

The case is no different this time around as we approach the January transfer window. Tchouameni again, sees himself linked with a move to the Reds. What makes him so special is his versatility to fit in almost anywhere in the middle of the park. More recently, he also turned up and played as a central defender in one of the league games for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

For a team that is looking to bolster their midfield options, there is absolutely no reason to look beyond someone like Tchouameni. The fact that he plays in any position so naturally is a testament to his versatility. To play in a different position is one thing and to make it seem like you’re not out of position is another, and the former Monaco man is an expert at that.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Liverpool are still keeping an eye on the player, with Arsenal showing interest in securing his services as well. Currently nursing a fatigue fracture that occurred in the 2-1 win for Real Madrid over Barcelona in the league just one day ago, Tchouameni stands expected to stay out of action, at least until the turn of the year.

Tchouameni to the Reds?

Tchouameni usually vies for the defensive midfielder spot in a 4-3-1-2 setup alongside Edouardo Camavinga. With a number of midfielders now in the reckoning to start games, competition for places is surely bound to go up. With the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Jude Bellingham, Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Brahim Diaz in an attacking midfield role, all playing for a spot in the XI, Tchouameni could possibly struggle for game time.

The case is the same at Liverpool as well, but the competition he has is surely less intense than what he has at Madrid. Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are our options in midfield at the moment, and Tchouameni would surely add quality to it.

We have not seen Real Madrid sell a lot of their players for cheap and it might as well be the case when it comes to Tchouameni. However, with a decent enough midfield already at their disposal, is it absolutely necessary for the Reds to spend big money on the Frenchman? Is Jurgen Klopp planning something for the future with him in mind?
