Bayern to open renewal talks with Sane as Liverpool links intensify
Bayern Munich are set to begin contract extension talks with Leroy Sane following mounting speculation linking the winger with a move to Liverpool.
According to BILD journalist Christian Falk via Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo), the German champions will sit down with Sane’s representatives during the international break to discuss a new deal.
Sane’s current contract expires in 2025, meaning Bayern risks losing him on a free transfer if renewal talks drag on without resolution.
Liverpool have been touted as a potential destination if Sane becomes available. With Mohamed Salah‘s Anfield future uncertain, the Reds may need left-wing reinforcements.
However, Bayern opening renewal negotiations signals their strong desire to retain the 27-year-old beyond his current terms. Sane has finally found consistency in Munich after an up-and-down start to life in Germany following his 2020 switch from Manchester City.
The mercurial wide player has established himself as a critical part of Bayern’s fearsome attack. His blistering pace, direct running, and lethal finishing make him a nightmare for defences.

Liverpool know all too well how dangerous Sane can be. The Reds were on the receiving end when he excelled in City’s title-winning sides before moving back to the Bundesliga.
Signing Sane would give Liverpool a proven Premier League pedigree and an ideal short-term Salah replacement. But at 28 years old in January, he may not align with FSG’s typical transfer strategy. Bayern will likely need to make Sane one of their top earners to ward off Liverpool and secure his prime years. But his performances may justify the investment.

Letting Sane leave for Anfield would give Liverpool a massive boost. Bayern will do everything to avoid that scenario unfolding. Now the ball is in Sane’s court. If he commits long-term, Bayern can breathe easy. But with Liverpool lurking, negotiations will be tense until pen hits paper.
