Greatness recognises greatness as PL legend appreciates Liverpool ace’s stellar return to action

Premier League legend Alan Shearer praises Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah after his prolific return to action against Brentford

Football pundit Alan Shearer lauded Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah after he made his triumphant return against Brentford on Saturday. Salah returned from a hamstring injury he sustained during international duties with Egypt at the AFCON competition in January.

The Egypt captain has played a pivotal role in the Reds’ successful season, continuing his prolific career at the club. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp changed Salah’s tactical role and responsibilities this season, coinciding with changes in the squad.

Klopp revamped the senior team with a new midfield while many long-serving players past their best departed in the summer. The 56-year-old deployed Salah in a much wider role at the right flank instead of playing him narrowly.

The 31-year-old stretches the play in defensive and midfield third when the team has possession of the ball. Nevertheless, he drops narrow in the attacking third to exploit the spaces between the opposition defenders and the fullbacks.

Furthermore, he has relied more on link-up plays, creativity and his technical qualities than dribbling and pace. Salah has continued his prolific goal-scoring despite the tactical and individual changes in his style of play.

The 31-year-old has made 28 appearances

in all competitions this season, contributing with 19 goals and 10 assists so far. Salah missed eight games in all competitions since leaving for AFCON and subsequently suffered a hamstring muscle injury.

Shearer used his official X account to praise Salah after his performance in a 1-4 Premier League away win against Brentford. The Egyptian replaced Diogo Jota in the 44th minute of the game, marking his return to the senior team.

He provided an assist to Alexis Mac Allister in the second half and then scored a goal himself. Salah’s return is a massive boost for Liverpool as they navigate through an injury crisis at a crucial stage.

The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table but have no room for excuses. Arsenal and Manchester City are breathing down their neck and Salah has an important role to play during the latter half of the season.
