Key Liverpool trio could sit out of the FA Cup clash vs Southampton at Anfield

Liverpool trio Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai still uncertain for Southampton

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on key players Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of the Reds’ upcoming FA Cup clash against Southampton.

Klopp expressed the need for miracles with a few players, indicating the uncertainty surrounding their availability for the upcoming fixture. Despite the challenges, Klopp refrained from ruling anyone out completely, highlighting the importance of assessing their conditions closer to the match. Here is what he had to say via the ECHO:

“We need miracles with a few players, that’s why I don’t want to rule anyone out, but it’s touch and go. Darwin, Mo, Dom, we have to see.”

Salah, who has been a pivotal figure for Liverpool, has faced a frustrating spell on the sidelines since he departed for the AFCON in January. The Egyptian forward has featured in only one game since his return, coming off the bench to score a goal and provide an assist in the victory against Brentford. However, Salah experienced discomfort towards the end of the match, raising concerns about his fitness.

Jurgen Klopp has a TASK replacing the injured players.

Too many injuries

Similarly, Darwin Nunez has seen himself sidelined with a muscle issue, adding to Liverpool’s injury woes. The Uruguayan forward’s absence has deprived the team of his attacking prowess and contributions on the field. With Liverpool aiming to maintain their momentum in the FA Cup, Nunez’s availability will be closely monitored as the team prepares for the crucial fixture against Southampton.

Additionally, Dominik Szoboszlai has been grappling with a hamstring issue, further complicating Klopp’s selection decisions for the upcoming match. The Hungarian midfielder’s absence has remained felt in the midfield, where his creativity and technical abilities have been sorely missed. As the Reds seek to navigate through a congested fixture schedule, Szoboszlai’s recovery will also remain closely monitored to determine his availability for the upcoming games.

The uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Salah, Nunez, and Szoboszlai underscores the challenges faced by Liverpool as they contend with a growing list of injury concerns. Klopp and his coaching staff will see themselves tasked with managing the squad effectively and making strategic decisions to mitigate the impact of the absences on the team’s performance.

Players from the reserve team will have to step up like they did against Chelsea and create a positive influence on the games; especially in the middle of the park where we are really short of options.

The upcoming fixture presents an opportunity for fringe players to step up and make their mark, demonstrating their readiness to contribute to the team’s success. With the support of the Anfield faithful behind them, Liverpool will look to overcome the challenges posed by injuries and continue their pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts.
