Liverpool have made a request to international association requesting them to rest superstar and let him recover from injury

Liverpool have made a special request to Egypt Football Association, asking them to rest Mohamed Salah during the international break

Liverpool have asked the Egypt Football Association not to pick Mohamed Salah, providing him ample time to recover from injury. In January, Salah sustained a hamstring injury during the AFCON tournament, prompting his return to Liverpool after Egypt’s elimination.

Liverpool are suffering from a horrible injury crisis that is testing the limits of their squad with numerous players sidelined. A long-term absence sidelines Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, and Diogo Jota, with Salah currently under observation.

Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic will remain sidelined for the rest of the season. The Reds cannot afford to risk repeating their mistake when they rushed Trent and Salah back from previous injuries.

Salah, currently sidelined with a muscular problem, has only featured for 46 minutes since leaving for AFCON, primarily in the match against Brentford. He has made 28 appearances for the Reds, contributing with 19 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table, closely followed by Manchester City and Arsenal. Furthermore, after securing the Carabao Cup they are challenging for the Europa League and the FA Cup. Salah has been the most prolific player for the club and his presence would bolster their chances of success.

Egypt Football Association released a statement (h/t Mirror) confirming that Liverpool approached them with the request to rest Salah. The statement said:

“We have already received a letter from Liverpool to exempt Mohamed Salah from the upcoming camp due to his injury,” a statement from the Egyptian FA read. “We sent the name of Mohamed Salah among the professional players that we are requesting to include in the next camp a few days ago.”

Furthermore, the Egypt Football Association gave a strange warning to Liverpool if Salah features for them before the international break. The added:

“It is still too early to decide the matter, and if Mohamed Salah plays any match in the time before the start of the camp, we will adhere to his inclusion, and he will be examined and his readiness determined by the medical staff of the Egyptian national team.”

The ominous statement makes little sense as Liverpool have not deployed Salah despite playing many important fixtures. The 31-year-old could potentially play against Manchester City in an extremely important fixture, but his game-time needs careful management.

Risking their captain for the friendlies with no consequences just to prove a point is completely counter-productive. Liverpool fans are hoping that common sense will prevail and the injured players can return as we reach the final stages of the season.
