Famed football pundit Ian Wright praised Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez for his ability to influence the game, proving naysayers wrong. Nunez helped Liverpool secure three points against Nottingham Forest by scoring a 99th-minute dramatic winning goal at City Ground.
The 24-year-old returned from injury after facing sideline for muscle stiffness in the last three matches. Liverpool are facing a severe injury crisis and have relied on many academy players during this period.
The Uruguayan’s triumphant return is a major boost for the Reds as they seek to add to their Carabao Cup victory. The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League with Manchester City and Arsenal right behind them.
Furthermore, they continue to progress in the FA Cup and the Europa League in an attempt to accomplish a quadruple. However, the injuries remain their biggest challenge and a threat to all the hard work to get here.
In his Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright highlighted Nunez’s ability to make things happen where he is on the pitch. He said:
“I love that. I love the way they did it. I’m delighted for Nunez because he gets so much [criticism], but he’s Captain Chaos and something’s happening. Something’s happening off of him. He’s one of those players. Like Foden is [for Man City], he is that one for Liverpool.”
Darwin has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Reds so far, contributing with 14 goals and 11 assists. The Uruguay international faced criticism for missing easy chances but he has contributed significantly for the club this season.
Nunez has been instrumental for Liverpool, contributing to the overall gameplay apart from goals and assists. He works hard unselfishly on and off the ball and continuously creates problems in the opposition half.
Liverpool will face Sparta Praha in the Europa League and then host Manchester City in a Premier League title clash. The Reds need Nunez to continue his tremendous form in the absence of several key players.
