Alexis Mac Allister talks about his relationship with in-form Liverpool teammate

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister highlighted his relationship with his teammate Darwin Nunez while praising his work rate

Alexis Mac Allister praised the impressive work ethic that Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez possesses while acknowledging their good mutual relationship. Mac Allister provided a fantastic 99th-minute assist to Nunez last Saturday to beat Nottingham Forest 0-1 at City Ground.

The Reds remain at the top of the Premier League table with an important victory ahead of Manchester City. They will face in-form Sparta Praha in the Europa League Round of 16 away clash on Thursday.

The Reds are facing a severe injury crisis to numerous important senior team players, threatening their successful season so far. Nunez returned from his three-game absence against Forest while Mac Allister continues to play a key role.  

The Argentina international has played as a number-six and a number-eight for the Reds this season. He has built a strong midfield partnership with Wataru Endo that has been crucial during this stage of the season.

Mac Allister has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with two goals and five assists. His influence in both the offensive and defensive phases of the game has received praise from many fans and pundits.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), Mac Allister highlighted his partnership with Darwin, highlighting his high work ethic. He said:

“My relationship with Darwin is very good, of course. I think since the first time we met you could see the connection between us off the pitch. Then, on the pitch, of course we try to be connected. When I play as a No.8 of course, that connection has to be important. He is an amazing guy, he is doing very well and he works very hard. That is why I am very happy for him.”

Nunez faced criticism for missing easy chances this season but his productivity and overall influence have been immense for Liverpool. He has made 38 appearances in all competitions, contributing with 14 goals and 11 assists for the Reds.

The Uruguay international provides a psychological edge whenever he is on the pitch, threatening the opposition with his directness. Darwin works hard on and off the ball, playing a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s counter-pressing philosophy.
