Ian Wright boldly pointed out the 115 charges against Manchester City while speaking about their rivalry with Liverpool
Ian Wright did not hold back about 115 charges levied against Manchester City during the discussion about success compared to Liverpool. The Arsenal legend raised the issue when Sky Sports compared the recent trophy success between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola has achieved 14 major trophies with Man City compared to Klopp’s seven major trophies amid their intense rivalry. The two managers faced each other 22 times during their time in England with Klopp winning eight games. On the other hand, Guardiola won seven games and the duo restricted each other with seven draws.
The Reds played the Citizens to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday. The result had direct consequences in the title race as Arsenal moved to the top with goal difference.
The match involved a highly controversial call from the referee Michael Oliver when he rejected a last-minute penalty. Jeremy Doku high-booted Alexis Mac Allister in the final moments which is a mandatory foul that referees have consistently given.
Liverpool have already dropped several points due to poor officiating, threatening their chances to fairly win the Premier League. Klopp already operates under limited resources compared to the high spending that Guardiola has enjoyed over the years.
Klopp has a net spend of £346m compared to Guardiola’s net spend of £510m during their time in England. Furthermore, the German inherited a weak squad compared to the one that the Spaniard acquired with many Premier League winners.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t YouTube), Wright blatantly highlighted the 115 charges which other pundits and media personnel try to ignore. He said:
“You look at the trophy haul and you have to say that Pep’s done very well. But then you look at what Klopp’s done to try to catch Manchester City, the way he’s built that team, how long it’s taken them to get there. You have to say, it might be easier for Pep in what he’s done, but Klopp’s still got to get a lot of love. It’s there for everyone to see in respect of trophies but we can’t speak about City without speaking about the fact there’s 115 charges around them.”
Man City have allegedly broken the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rule, withheld the information during the inquiries and procrastinated. The steep rise to the top combined with unrealistic sponsorship deals and other business deals is too brazen.
