Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister talks of ‘mentality’ after coming back against Brighton

After conceding what was the earliest-ever goal scored by a visiting team in a Premier League game at Anfield since October 2019, Liverpool took their time to score two and secure all three points against Brighton to maintain their charge for the title. Who was our best player you ask? Ex-Brighton Alexis Mac Allister.

God bless his agent who got a release clause in his contract with Brighton for the Reds to trigger. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has been our best midfielder this season and assuming he will only improve, we can rub our hands like Ronaldinho. The Reds have gained the most points from losing positions this season, and a great deal of that has to go down to our mentality. Luis Diaz’s equaliser in the 27th minute and Mohamed Salah’s winner in the 65th minute was enough for the Reds to brush aside the Seagulls.

We are not dubbed the “Mentality Monsters” for no bloody reason. And Alexis Mac Allister echoes this thought. The 25-year-old central midfielder pulled all the strings in the middle of the park and stood duly awarded for his efforts with a top-class assist for Mo’s goal.

Here is what he told the club’s official website after winning against his former side:

“I would rather not concede so early! But the mentality of the boys is amazing, that’s what you need when you are 1-0 down. Today we showed it again. But, as I said, next time we have to try to start winning and not losing.”

All in the mind!

It’s no secret that Mac Allister has been a revelation at Anfield, and his performance against his former club was yet another testament to his quality. His vision, composure on the ball, and ability to dictate the tempo of the game were on full display.

But as Macca himself acknowledged in his post-match comments, there’s always room for improvement. While our ability to come from behind and secure the win is commendable, we need to strive to start games on the front foot and avoid conceding early goals. It’s certainly a testament to the high standards set by Klopp and the team – there’s always a hunger for more, a desire to push ourselves to new heights.

As we celebrate another hard-fought victory, it’s important to recognise the collective effort and belief that define this Liverpool side. Every player certainly contributes to our success.
