Manchester United legend claims Liverpool are favourites to win the Premier League

Manchester United legend Roy Keane surprisingly admits that Liverpool are the favourite to win the Premier League this season

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane begrudgingly accepts that Liverpool are the favourite to win the Premier League this season. Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Arsenal with nine games remaining.

The Reds beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday while the Gunners drew 0-0 against Manchester City. Nevertheless, both Arsenal and the Citizens remain a formidable threat to the Reds as pending fixtures are tough and unpredictable.

Liverpool are yet to play Manchester United, Everton, Fulham, West Ham United and Aston Villa in an away fixture. Each of these teams is formidable and they will make it hard for the Reds to break them.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revamped the squad which helped the club challenge for the Premier League despite early predictions from pundits questioning their top-four credentials.

Keane told Sky Sports that he thinks Liverpool are the favourite to win the Premier League with nine games remaining. He said:

“I think Liverpool, I’d have them favourites. Arsenal second favourites with their goal difference. City with their injuries and the strain of everything – Champions League coming up, same as Arsenal – [third favourites]. Every time I watch Liverpool, we can look at one or two faults they might have, but they get so many chances every game, they’re going to score lots of goals. I’ve said Man City [previously] but what I’ve seen recently, I’m going to go with Liverpool.”

Liverpool is still suffering from an injury crisis with numerous first-team players sidelined with injuries. Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker have missed numerous games since the beginning of 2024.

The Reds would want their star players to return swiftly and help them through the last stage of the season. Their title rivals possess the depth in the squad to build a strong run of form to finish the season strongly.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Man City are competing in the Champions League but Liverpool are also playing in the Europa League. Keane’s sincerity about his prediction is questionable as it is well-known that he is not fond of Liverpool’s success.

It could easily be an attempt to create a narrative about the “bottle job” in case things go wrong for Liverpool. Nevertheless, the Reds have a golden opportunity and they need to take each of the nine games as a cup final.
