Jurgen Klopp hints at Liverpool inefficiency in the Manchester United clash by making Arsenal example

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made clear that Arsenal will have more than enough to beat United if they put in a performance like they did on Sunday

After sliding off the top spot following a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford against United, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tried to put pressure on the new leaders, Arsenal, as the title race entered its next phase.

Klopp’s Reds travelled to Old Trafford to face their fierce rivals, knowing that a win would be enough to move Liverpool two points clear at the top of the Premier League. Despite grabbing the lead early on through Luis Diaz, the visitors ended up behind with ten minutes to go.

However, a late Mohamed Salah penalty

saved Liverpool’s blushes, but it was insufficient to propel them to the top of the rankings. Instead, they are in second place, tied on points with the league-leading Gunners but trailing them due to a substantially worse goal difference.

With seven games still to play for all three sides battling it out for the title in Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City, United might even aid the other two if they defeat Arsenal in mid-May on the season’s penultimate weekend.

However, Klopp is not optimistic about receiving any favours from the Red Devils. When asked if he would support United when they visit Arsenal, the Liverpool manager admitted to Sky Sports:

“Probably, If we are still around then that would be great. But Arsenal are a good football team. If they [United] play like today, Arsenal will win the game, I am 100% sure. I am sorry to say that but this is a matter of fact. We should’ve won both games and didn’t. That’s our fault.”

Klopp’s possible hint

Maybe in this interview, the Liverpool boss indicates the inefficiency shown by Liverpool in the United clash, as when it was easy for the Reds to grab the full three points, they could only manage a draw because of silly and small mistakes.

Liverpool should have made United pay. When Diaz put Liverpool in the lead in the initial stage of the match, things were in favour of the Reds almost completely and still, they allowed the opposition to score two, putting themselves in a losing position.

The circumstances made Klopp’s interview all the more pointed. Liverpool had just drawn a game they should have easily won, making 28 shots in total with 63% possession. The stats clearly show that Liverpool had the game in their hands yet they threw it.
