Liverpool are keeping tabs on Real Madrid sensation Paulo Iago
According to The Express, Liverpool could be in the running to recruit Real Madrid prodigy Paulo Iago this summer, thanks to their relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are both clients of Mendes’ agency Gestifute, creating an established link with the Reds.
Premier League clubs are tracking the 16-year-old, who is unhappy with his playing time at Madrid as his countryman, Lamine Yamal, who currently shines for Barcelona’s senior team.
Yamal and Iago are two of Spain’s most promising adolescent prospects. The pair progressed step by step through the international junior ranks, but Yamal made his first-team debut at Barcelona rather early.
The winger made his debut last year at the age of 15 and has since become a regular for Xavi’s side. This season, the 2007-born prodigy has scored seven La Liga goals in 29 games, earning him full Spanish international status.
Iago, in the meantime, is falling behind. The teenager, who mostly plays for Real Madrid’s Under-19s and is mentored by former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa, has yet to be called to the senior side.
According to Sport, the central midfielder is eager to leave as a result. Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are allegedly monitoring the situation in order to trigger his small £11 million release clause this summer.
Paulo have caught the eye of the Spanish giants
The Reds’ official interest in Iago is currently unconfirmed. However, the teenage talent has been linking with the Spanish Giants Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are always on the hunt for players to enhance their team, and Paulo Iago may be an excellent addition, with the likes of Lamine Yamal already in the squad.
Barca could be a huge obstacle for the Reds in the race for the 16-year-old talent because the relationship between Barcelona and the agent, Jorge Mendes, is no less than that of Liverpool. Barca has an advantage as Yamal was Mendes’ agency’s signing.
