Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah reveals who he believes deserves more credit at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has singled out Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez as two underappreciated players in the Liverpool team’s quest to cap off Jurgen Klopp’s stint as manager.

The Reds number 11 is no stranger to underappreciation, despite consistently delivering remarkable performances at Anfield since his arrival. Despite his stellar contributions, he has often found himself overshadowed in discussions and has never finished higher than fifth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

Recently, Salah has started to gain more widespread recognition as a true Premier League legend, but it has taken time for him to shake off comparisons to other players and establish his own legacy.

Part of the challenge for Salah may be his consistent excellence, which has made it difficult for him to have a standout campaign like his first season back in England. Nevertheless, his consistent world-class performances over the years speak volumes about his talent and impact on the pitch.

Salah does not like the appreciation the two Liverpool players are receiving

When asked which players have perhaps not received proper appreciation in Klopp’s squad this season, Salah pointed to two of his fellow strikers.

“I think Darwin and Cody. Cody doesn’t get credit because the fans I don’t know if they really understand his game or not. But he is a very, very clever player. I admire the way he thinks, it’s very, very good. He is young and wants to learn, he asks a lot of questions.”

“Darwin is a key for us as well. The way he plays, the way he opens space for us, it’s very good. But he doesn’t get a lot of credit because once he misses a chance, others fans start to jump (on him) and Liverpool fans start defending him and he’s inside that mess. But for me, he’s one of the best players on the team.”

Quality recognizes quality and it is clear that the Egyptian values what his teammates bring to the table. This is very different from the fickle nature of today’s football fanbase.

Gakpo is doing just fine considering he is just a youngster now

It’s important to remember that Gakpo is still a young player, relatively new to the highest level of competition. The transition from the Eredivisie was always going to require some adjustments.

While Liverpool’s front line faced criticism after the match against Manchester United for their lack of ruthlessness, players like Salah, Nunez, and Gakpo have shouldered much of the team’s goal-scoring responsibilities this season, contributing to a treble bid that remains alive.
