Liverpool crash out of the UEFA Europa League as Jurgen Klopp speaks about what’s to come

It surely does not feel nice to say it but the way Liverpool played in the second half of the second leg of their quarter-final match against Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League knowing they had to score two, we did not deserve to go through. Even though the opening few minutes gave us a bit of hope, Jurgen Klopp would surely not deny if someone said the players did not push themselves for a win in the second 45.

The Reds had five shots on target in the entire game and needed a penalty to go through. Shambles. Mohamed Salah did well to score from the spot but seemed unavailable otherwise. Fair play to Atalanta and congratulations to Gian Piero Gasperini whose side did extremely well throughout the tie to not let Liverpool assert their dominance over any of the legs and play their natural game.

Anyways, now that we are not a part of the FA Cup or the UEFA Europa League, we can dedicate our focus to the league. Not that proceedings there are merry. Manchester City lead the league [surprise], and Arsenal and Liverpool trail them. The Gunners have a significant lead over the rest of the league in terms of goal difference, which separates them from third-placed Reds.

Speaking in the aftermath of the 1-0 “win” against Atalanta, here is what Jurgen Klopp told TNT Sport via BBC:

“It is mixed emotions. We are out but I am happy with the game. We would have wished that we could have gone to Dublin but that hasn’t happened.

“We now have one competition left and we will throw ourselves into that completely.”

Crystal Palace beat us 1-0 at home in our last league game, Jurgen. We all know it hurts you twice as much as the next person, but we have to do something about it. Numerous chances in all our games since March but absolutely zilch to show for it is not a true reflection of the club.

Questions need to be asked of the frontline who seem to get away with everything for the past month and a half. People can try, but there’s no point if they don’t score. People can have an ‘x’ number of goals for Liverpool in the past seven, six or five years but what is the point if they do not score when it counts? If that is the case, who is stopping anyone in authority from signing Fernando Torres on a short-term contract to come to help the Reds in pursuit of a historic 20th league title?

Jokes apart, we have to focus on getting 6/6 in the Premier League. Fulham have only secured their place in the first division and it is our job to remind them how tough it is to sustain that. Work has to start on Sunday. The visit to West London is followed by a trip back home to face our noisy neighbours, Everton. MAKE THOSE 90 MINUTES FEEL LIKE HELL FOR THOSE TOFFEES.

We all know, Liverpool, in fifth gear, are next to impossible. No team in world football [except probably Real Madrid] dare stop the Reds when Jurgen Klopp’s “heavy metal football” is in full flow. Now that this is the only competition left, make it seem like it boys.

It is Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Liverpool Football Club. We cannot wave him ta-ta with only a league cup. He has put in a huge amount of effort to fight state-backed money in the Premier League and has won all trophies possible.
