Virgil Van Dijk gives a concerning update on his long overdue contract extension at Liverpool

There has been a lot of talk surrounding the future of Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool. The Dutch defender has been at the club for six years now and has been a big part of the team’s success in the Jurgen Klopp Era. However, even the German manager is leaving Anfield after almost a decade at the helm.

The club is expected to undergo a multitude of changes when Klopp leaves. A lot of his staff will be leaving with him and some of the players could depart the grounds of Anfield behind their German manager.

This is a crucial time for the club and they need to retain their best players while they can. However, Virgil van Dijk suggests there has been no movement on his new contract. Let’s have a look at what he had to say when asked about the situation. (h/t The Mirror)

“The focus is now on the last two (matches of the season) and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that.”

“There will be a lot of changes happening and I wouldn’t say scary is the right word but it is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now. So let’s see, let’s see.”

While Van Dijk isn’t any closer to signing a new contract he did state that he plans on being a part of the transition that the club will go through in the coming days. So, we can expect the Dutch defender to stick around at Anfield for at least another season.

Moreover, the 32-year-old defender is still performing at a very high level. Van Dijk has made 46 appearances for the team this season he has only missed one game due to injury and that too only happened because he fell ill.
