Squawka revealed that Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has gone toe-to-toe with Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz in two crucial aspects. Wirtz has played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s undefeated run in all competitions with his incredible productivity and playmaking skills.

Meanwhile, Elliott has enjoyed a lot of game time at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, rotating with his quality teammates this season. The 21-year-old has already acquired immense experience with the first team, breaking into the senior team at Anfield as a teenager.

The England U21 displayed versatility by playing as a right-winger, central midfielder and as a central attacking midfielder under Klopp. Elliott works hard in and out of possession and earned praise for his work ethic during the congested fixture period.

Liverpool suffered a severe injury crisis while playing games every mid-week from late February till mid-March under poor scheduling. Elliott maintained his commitment towards the high-pressing style of play while featuring regularly during that time, playing a crucial role.

The 21-year-old finished the whole 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, displaying incredible stamina with his qualities. Elliott has made 51 appearances in all competitions, contributing with four goals and nine assists for Liverpool this season.

The young Englishman has displayed incredible technique and flair on possession, playing mostly at the right side of the midfield. Elliott has gradually built consistency into his game, becoming a constant threat for the opponents with his creativity and shooting.

Squawka used X account to reveal U21 per 90 stat leaders across Europe’s top five leagues this season (630+ mins). In the “Most successful passes into opposition box” category, Wirtz led with 2.91 followed by Elliott at 2.44. Legendary manager Klopp will depart from the club at the end of the current season, succeeded by Arne Slot. Slot has used a 4-3-3 formation at Feyenoord which deploys a narrow attacking wingers alongside a number 10, right behind the main forward. While the philosophy and style match Klopp’s, the tactics could be the exact thing which would help Elliott thrive and become more productive next season.
