The delay in announcing Arne Slot as the manager of Liverpool is due to the situation surrounding his backroom staff.
Liverpool continues to address the situation surrounding the backroom staff of Arne Slot before making an official announcement. Slot wants to bring his backroom team from Feyenoord with him but Liverpool are facing a problem in securing them immediately.
In January, Liverpool’s legendary manager Jurgen Klopp announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role after this season. The 56-year-old cited burnout as the reason behind his decision as his mental and physical well-being comes is the priority.
Despite the heartbreak of losing their beloved manager, the Reds fans understood his decision and they anticipate a smooth transition. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have made structural changes to usher in a new era once Klopp leaves the club.
Former sporting director Michael Edwards is the new FSG’s CEO of Football and possesses all the control of the footballing operation. Furthermore, the 44-year-old has recruited highly-coveted Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as the new Liverpool sporting director under his leadership.
The new management used the time to vigorously analyze the best head coach to succeed Klopp at Liverpool next season. Slot perfectly fits the profile, having worked in similar budget restrictions in Eredivisie, yet achieved success and developed top players.
The Mirror reported that Liverpool have already agreed to pay £11 million compensation to Feyenoord for Slot to acquire him. Furthermore, they have to pay another £2 million to secure all the backroom staff that Slot wants to bring in.
Slot’s assistant Sibke Hulschoff is also acting as an assistant to the Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman for the Euro 2024. While the Reds want Hulschoff to start his duties on July 1, the Euro 24 tournament ends on July 15.
