As reported by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas left the Wales coaching staff stunned with his performances in training. The 18-year-old has earned himself a call-up to the national team at such a tender age.
He is expected to make his first appearance for the senior team during their upcoming friendly against Gibraltar. Last season has been life-changing for Koumas as he got to make his senior debut for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp.
The 18-year-old responded to the callup by scoring in Liverpool’s FA Cup win over Southampton. A video of Koumas in training with the Wales team has been making the rounds on X. As the 18-year-old drives the ball into the top left corner, his coach can be heard exclaiming “oh my lord!”.
The extra time spent with training with the Wales squad will surely result in a positive development for the 18-year-old winger. The Reds anyway need more depth for their forward line, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Arne Slot relies on Koumas next season.
He has already shown that he can perform in the top flight. Moreover, he is only 18 years old, so he has all the time in the world to grow and be a superstar at Anfield. It seems like Slot will have a gem on his hand next season.
However, the Reds need to be careful with Koumas’ development. A lot of amazing talents have failed when they have too much pressure put on them at a young age. Hopefully, this won’t end up being the case for Koumas.
It’ll be interesting to see how big of a role Lewis Koumas gets to play in Liverpool under Arne Slot.
