Liverpool ace Cody Gakpo reveals why he rejected a move to Leeds United
Before he came to Anfield, Liverpool ace Cody Gakpo was extremely close to joining English rivals, Leeds United. However, the 25-year-old rejected a move to Leeds and stayed on with PSV Eindhoven. Thankfully, six months later the Reds were able to sign a deal for Gakpo.
If the Dutch forward hadn’t changed his mind about their English rivals, it is very possible that Gakpo might not even be in the Premier League at this moment. The 25-year-old says he didn’t make much of a decision and it was divine intervention that helped him stay at PSV. Let’s have a look (h/t Team Talk)
“I presented the three options I had to God. If I scored once, I would go to Southampton. If I scored twice I would go to Leeds and if I scored three I would stay at PSV.”
When the game finally ended, Gakpo recorded a hat trick, and his decision was made. Gakpo also mentioned that he went to god to ask for wisdom and got what he wanted. The 25-year-old also said that people might think of him as strange because of this.
However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything this goes on to show just how much quality Gakpo has on the ball. He left his decision up to his performance and then went on to put up a show for the ages.
One awry pass, one bad dribble, or a poor shot was all it would’ve to alter Gakpo’s future during that game. However, the fact that he signed on with one of the biggest clubs in the world six months later be interpreted as an act of god by a few people.
