Real Madrid now set to skip Luis Diaz signing from Liverpool after Kylian Mbappe’s acquisition

Liverpool Echo has indicated that Real Madrid are now no longer likely to pursue a transfer for Liverpool superstar Luis Diaz after capturing Kylian Mbappe as a free agent after his exit from Paris Saint-Germain.

The France captain put an end to several years of speculation by joining the 15-time European champions in a deal that was announced last week.

Real Madrid have added one of the world’s best players to an already star-studded team. Those in Europe are likely to be terrified by the Whites’ possibility of dominating the continent for years to come, but Liverpool will breathe a sigh of relief as Luis Diaz will no longer see interest incoming from Los Blancos.

Luis Diaz has gone through some tumultuous times since joining Liverpool. He has had his fair share of injuries at Anfield but went through something of a personal conundrum last year when his father was kidnapped in Colombia.

In spite of all this, he has remained a popular name among the Liverpool fans. With 24 goals in 98 games, his numbers do not provide for attractive reading but the Colombian international’s overall gameplay has been an asset for the Reds.

Paris Saint-Germain want Liverpool star Luis Diaz to replace their outgoing forward Kylian Mbappe during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Paris Saint-Germain want Liverpool star Luis Diaz to replace their outgoing forward Kylian Mbappe during the upcoming summer transfer window.

As such, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain remain keen on a transfer for him, as per Liverpool Echo. Barca could sell Raphinha in the summer and look to replace him with Diaz. The Catalans, however, are not as big a threat due to their severe financial struggles.

PSG, meanwhile, want to replace Mbappe and like Diaz’s profile for the left flank. The 27-year-old still has the best years of his career ahead of him and may be priced into joining PSG, which can offer a huge salary package.

Liverpool are safe in terms of FFP guidelines and will not come under pressure to get rid of any player, but Diaz himself could be tempted to leave Anfield if an irresistible offer comes his way from Paris.

Arne Slot is expected to keep the ex-Porto forward firmly in his plans and it remains to be seen whether Diaz chooses the glamour and honour of playing for Liverpool or the money that PSG will attract him with.
