Newcastle United's FFP concerns could help Liverpool land summer target.
As reported by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool could end up signing Newcastle United star, Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The Magpies are concerned about not abiding with FFP regulations this season which would be the perfect opportunity for the Reds.
To avoid any penalties, Newcastle could be forced to sell players in order to comply with FFP. Guimaraes is one of their best players and would fetch a high price on the market making him one of the few that could be moved this summer.
This past season the 26-year-old made 50 appearances for the Magpies, spending most of his time playing as a defensive midfielder. However, despite playing just above the defensive line, Guimaraes was a threat in the final third and ended up making 17 goal contributions.
The Reds had to let go of Thiago this summer after the Spanish midfielder endured yet another campaign riddled with injuries. Now, they need a replacement to bolster their middle line and Guimaraes appears as the best candidate for the job.
The Brazilian midfielder has stated that he is happy with Newcastle and would like to finish his contract with the club. However, it is his contract that could help the team fetch a higher price for him. Guimaraes has four years left on his deal.
His lengthy contract will put Newcastle in a strong position to negotiate. But, the Magpies can’t be too picky if they sell Bruno to be in compliance with FFP regulations.
Guimaraes is an excellent player and the Anfield crowd would love to see him donning the red. Hopefully, Liverpool’s new recruitment team can get a deal done this summer.
