Liverpool star Joe Gomez faces an uncertain future at Anfield
Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool will involve new manager Arne Slot in transfer discussions to determine the future of defender Joe Gomez, as quoted in a report by GIVEMESPORT.
Joe Gomez, 27, faces an uncertain future at Anfield after the arrival of Arne Slot, who has replaced Jurgen Klopp at the club’s helm. The Englishman has been an important player for the Merseyside outfit since arriving from Charlton Athletic in 2015, and his versatility in operating in multiple positions across the defence and performing reliably make him a valuable asset.
The defender has racked up over 240 appearances for the Reds, helping the club win five trophies during the Jurgen Klopp era. However, things could change for Gomez if Liverpool buy a new centre-back this summer after Arne Slot’s approval.
With Conor Bradley breaking into the Liverpool first team last term, Gomez is no longer competing with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right-back spot. In addition, GIVEMESPORT reports that Jarell Quansah enjoying a strong 2023/24 season has made the competition tougher than ever for Gomez. And if Liverpool signs a centre-back, the 27-year-old would drop further down the pecking order.
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Gomez’s future will be discussed by the Liverpool recruitment chiefs in the presence of Slot, with the Dutch tactician running the rule over his talented squad.
“So, I think on these kinds of players, it always depends on the possibilities they have on the market in terms of proposals,” Romano told GIVEMESPORT in an exclusive interview.
“Then, on Arne Slot, Liverpool really want to involve the manager in the transfer discussions they will have on every single player – including Joe Gomez.
“I think starting from this week they will have conversations with the coach, see what he wants to do with the players, and we will see from there.”
Liverpool are lacking depth in the defensive unit following the release of Joel Matip at the end of last season. Virgil van Dijk is no longer getting younger while Quansah needs more time to develop into a regular starter for the club, so losing Gomez would be a body blow at this stage.

Gomez has been an excellent squad member for our club and fully deserves to be selected in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024. However, with the Reds monitoring central defenders like Benfica’s Antonio Silva and Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio whilst being linked with Eintracht Frankfurt star Willian Pacho, there are chances of Liverpool moving on the England international after nine years, subject to Slot’s approval.
