Liverpool wants Atalanta midfielder Ederson over his teammate and former pupil of Arne Slot, Teun Koopmeiners
Atalanta midfielder Ederson is a transfer target for Liverpool during the summer over former protégé of Arne Slot, Teun Koopmeiners. Liverpool scouts assessed Koopmeiners but Ederson gained their attention with his fantastic performances for the Italian club during last season.
Atalanta won the Europa League by beating the undefeated German side Bayer Leverkusen 0-3 through Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactical masterclass. Ederson enjoyed a successful season under Gasperini as he drilled his team with fantastic tactics in a 3-4-2-1 attacking formation.
Ederson and his teammates apply one-on-one high-pressing marking under Gasperini to win the possession back in the middle phases. After winning the possession, they deploy a very direct counter-attack to score goals and the tactics continuously exploit slow transitions.
Ederson plays in the double-pivot midfield, mostly with Koopmeiners as the duo play a crucial role in influencing the game. Koopmeiners has played a lot of games as an attacking midfielder last season which helped develop his performance even further.
Meanwhile, his Brazilian teammate has played in a deeper role while enjoying a more attacking freedom than a typical number-six. Ederson has displayed impressive passing distribution, ability to dictate tempo and make progressive carries with the ball from the middle.
He uses well-timed tackles, blocks and interceptions while also enjoying a good winning ratio in the aerial duels. However, the 24-year-old struggles with inconsistency at times and he is slow in turn which is a crucial requirement.
According to the Italian publication TuttoJuve, Liverpool wants Ederson over Koopmeiners who has previously played under Slot. Koopmeiners is also a transfer target of Italian giants Juventus as they seek to bolster their midfield.
