Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio set for Dundee medical
As Liverpool FC’s transfer window activity starts to gain momentum, the Reds are making some crucial decisions regarding their squad. While the focus has largely been on potential incomings and retaining the core first-team squad, it appears that some young talents are set to move on. One such player is Billy Koumetio, who is close to sealing a move away from Anfield.
Koumetio, once hailed as an “unbelievable” talent by Liverpool U21’s coach Barry Lewtas and admired by Jurgen Klopp, has struggled to progress as expected. Despite making history as Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in the Champions League when he debuted against Midtjylland in 2020, the French defender has found first-team opportunities hard to come by.
After a series of loan moves, including stints at Austria Vienna, Dunkerque, and a less-than-successful spell with Blackburn Rovers last season, where he made just one substitute appearance, Koumetio is now poised for a fresh start. The 21-year-old is set to undergo a medical with Dundee FC ahead of a potential transfer.
According to The Courier, Dundee FC, who have been in the market for defensive reinforcements, are keen on securing Koumetio’s services. The move could see the young defender sign a two-year contract with the Scottish side, with an option for a further year. While it is a step-down, it offers the youngster an opportunity to reset his career.
Koumetio joined Liverpool’s academy in 2018 after spells with Lyon and Orleans in France. Despite his early promise, his development has not aligned with the club’s high expectations. Now, as Dundee FC prepares to bring him in, Koumetio has the chance to revive his career and gain the regular first-team football he needs to fulfil his potential.
As Koumetio prepares for this next chapter in his career, we Liverpool fans will be hoping that the young defender can finally realize the potential that once made him one of the club’s most promising prospects.

Koumetio has potential, and as we have seen with Jarell Quansah, there is a route for the youngsters at Kirkby to make it to the senior Anfield setup. However, the fact that Koumetio is considered dependable speaks volumes of the quality at Liverpool’s disposal and the levels needed to make the cut in Red. We wish nothing but the best for Koumetio and hope Dundee is just the start of what will be a successful career. YNWA.
