The 17-year-old winger had drawn attention from the Premiership duo apart from Scottish giants Rangers.
Smith has signed a professional contract that will keep him at the Etihad for four years. This will become effective when the player turns 18 in June.
The winger caught City’s eye after scoring the winner for Scotland’s under-16 side against Malta in a three-team tournament at the Mediterranean island in March. (h/t Daily Mail)
The youngster, who has not made a single senior appearance for Kilmarnock, will cost City a compensation of £200,0000. (h/t BBC)
Kilmarnock are also expected to earn a future fee, depending on the teenager’s performances for City. Smith has represented Scotland at the youth level and has won 3 caps for the Scottish Under-17 side.
