Naby Keita urged to take inspiration from Jordan Henderson
Naby Keita has been urged to take inspiration from Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool career by former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The Guinean international has failed to live up to expectations since his £52m arrival at Anfield in 2018. Injuries have played a part in slowing the midfielder’s development at our club. But when given the chances, Keita hasn’t been consistent enough.
The quality available in midfield at Klopp’s disposal, with the likes of Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, hasn’t helped Keita’s cause either. As a result, the 25-year-old has featured in just 34 of the 67 Premier League games played since he moved to Anfield (h/t Liverpool Echo).
However, Hamann has urged the Guinean to draw inspiration from his captain Henderson’s story at the club, while also advising the management to give Keita more time to establish himself at our club (h/t Liverpool Echo).
“So far, he has not really clicked at Liverpool, but if you speak about Jordan Henderson, you wouldn’t have said after two seasons at Anfield he would go on to lift the Champions League as captain, so I hope they give Keita another year.”
It is no secret that our captain wasn’t as popular a figure as he is today when he had joined the club from Sunderland in 2011. There was even a point in his career when Liverpool tried to offload him to Fulham as part of a deal to sign Clint Dempsey (h/t Mirror).

Henderson though, put his head down, worked hard and went on to lift the Champions League trophy with us. If the season resumes, he could also go on to be the first Liverpool captain to win the Premier League title.
There is enough evidence to suggest that Keita has plenty of quality and potential. Hopefully, the Guinean is able to draw inspiration from our captain and fulfil the promise he had shown early in his career.
