Liverpool receive huge boost in Timo Werner pursuit

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of German ace Timo Werner, as RB Leipzig have identified a replacement for the striker (h/t Express).

According to a report from Weser Kurier (h/t Express) Leipzig are closing in on the signing of Werder Bremen striker Milot Rashica, leaving the field open for our club to make a move for Werner.

Werner has grown into one of the best strikers in Europe over the past couple of years. The 24-year-old has been in prolific form in 2019/20, netting 27 goals and assisting 12 in 36 matches.

The German international has been on the radar of Liverpool for quite some time now, with speculations only intensifying after his comments praising our team and the manager.

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, though, had recently claimed that the club were “deeply relaxed” on Werner’s situation.

However, as per the report, they are already lining up a move for Milot Rashica, another player who had been linked with our club. The transfer is believed to be imminent, opening the doors for Werner’s exit and potential transfer to Liverpool (h/t Express).

Huge Boost

Werner’s quality has been evident for everyone to see during his time with RB Leipzig. The 24-year-old has been one of the main driving forces behind their rise in stature in the Bundesliga. His addition would undoubtedly provide us with extra quality and depth in the attacking ranks.

Both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah will be unavailable for parts of next season. This is due to the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January 2021. So bringing in Werner would help us deal with their absence.

Werner has a release clause of £51m in his contract with Leipzig, which Liverpool will have to trigger in order to sign him this summer.
