Liverpool urged to make move for Kai Havertz
According to ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley (h/t Express), Liverpool should make a move for highly-rated Bundesliga star Kai Havertz.
The 20-year-old is one of Europe’s biggest prospects. Burley believes he also offers Liverpool something the current front three cannot – physicality.
“He would bring so many different things to that Liverpool side.”
In spite of being just 20, Havertz has already made 140 appearances for Leverkusen and has scored 40 goals and 30 assists. He did his reputation no harm with his well-taken brace against Werder Bremen yesterday. In spite of having not played a competitive game for over two months, the German international hardly looked out of step.
A reactive argument?
It is this performance that has urged Burley to endorse the player for an Anfield switch. Although he is aware of the exploits of Roberto Firmino, the pundit believes he is lacking when it comes to aerial prowess.
Havertz has scored six headers during his time at Bayer Leverkusen. Firmino, on the other hand, has done so 17 times. Although it would be lovely to see Havertz in a Red jersey, Burley’s comments seem to be inspired by the player’s performances yesterday. Both the goals Havertz scored against Bremen were headers.
The only member of our triumvirate who has scored lesser headers is Mohamed Salah (3). Sadio Mane, on the other hand, has 14.
The German will not come cheap and will cost £90million in the upcoming window. Burley has backed the player to stay put at Leverkusen for a year. This will give the Reds time to stump up the cash for him.
A versatile player who predominantly plays in attacking midfield, Havertz will add much to the Liverpool squad. With players such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Gini Wijnaldum not getting any younger, an infusion of young blood is necessary.
