Transfer News: Liverpool yet to agree transfer fee for Xherdan Shaqiri with Lyon
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t Liverpool Echo), reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that Liverpool winger, Xherdan Shaqiri, has agreed on terms with Lyon.
However, the French side are yet to meet the Reds’ transfer demands for the player. In fact, they are said to disagree with each other’s valuation of the Swiss international.
Romano mentions that the club needs to offload players to make new signings. And for that reason, Shaqiri could be on the chopping block as Lyon have shown interest in him.
“Liverpool need to sell players before signing new players, Jurgen Klopp has been so clear. For Shaqiri and Lyon, they have been in negotiations but there is still no agreement.”
Shaq off to France?
Nevertheless, the transfer is unlikely to go ahead if the two teams do not agree on a fee. And as of now, the Ligue 1 side is yet to budge and meet Liverpool’s asking price for the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger.
“Shaqiri has an agreement with Lyon but there is still no agreement with the clubs. So let’s see what happens with the negotiations.”
The Swiss winger’s time at the club has been peculiar to say the very least. The dynamic playmaker can wreak havoc on his day and has impressed when on the pitch for Liverpool.
His performances against Barcelona in the 4-0 win at Anfield and the 3-1 win against Manchester United in the 2018/19 season showed his worth, but it never ended up in him getting regular starts for the club.

Hopefully, he finds sufficient game-time in France and can show the footballing world that he still has it in him to play at the top level. But that, of course, would only be possible if and when Lyon meet Liverpool’s demands.
