Wolves contact Liverpool for Takumi Minamino amidst Leeds United transfer interest

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Wolves have made contact with Liverpool to facilitate a transfer for Takumi Minamino amidst interest from Leeds United. He has been linked with an exit from his side this summer, having failed to reach the expectations in which he was signed back in 2020.

The Reds appear to be open to selling Minamino ahead of the next season as they have set an asking price of £17million for his services. Now, it is claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers could meet that valuation as they look to beat off the competition to secure a potential transfer move.

The Wanderers have met with Jurgen Klopp’s side as a result, and they look to steal a march on Leeds United and Fulham this summer. The latter duo are also in the mix as they are eager to bolster their ranks by signing the Japanese international ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Minamino to leave Anfield?

The 27-year-old is on the back of his most productive season in front of the goal for us, having played a key role in our domestic double in the last campaign. His ten goals alongside one assist from a mere 1008 minutes across all competitions is a great return indeed.

If Minamino does leave us this summer, there arise serious questions over our depth in the forward areas for the next season. After all, Sadio Mane is thought to be departing Anfield, while Divock Origi is set to join AC Milan on a free transfer.

While we have signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica, the lack of depth is still concerning, to say the least. After all, it is always good to have at least two players competing in a single position, but that may not be the case under the current circumstances.

Perhaps Harvey Eliott could play a more prominent role in that attack, but we still need to bring in more reinforcements this summer. With three Premier League sides interested in Minamino, there is no reason to sell him below the current price tag.

Moreover, it seems that that valuation would be met by Bruno Lage’s side anyway. In any case, it will be interesting to see if a transfer can be finalised in the coming weeks and whether those funds can be used to bring in adequate reinforcements or not this summer.

Then again, we would at least make a profit from Minamino’s sale, having signed him for just £7.25million from RB Salzburg. Now we have to wait and see whether Wolves will get their hands on the Asian ace or not this summer.
