Transfer News: Liverpool make a massive offer to Leeds United for Raphinha
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport [Print Edition] (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool have made a substantial offer to Leeds United to finalise a move for Raphinha in the summer transfer window. The former are looking into the market to bolster their frontline ahead of the next season.
Jurgen Klopp has supposedly set his eyes on the Brazilian, having viewed him as an option to increase their attacking options this summer. As such, the Reds are planning to back their boss, having made a £60million proposal to Leeds to secure the winger’s signature for that reason.
Despite the Whites’ intent to make Raphinha stay at Elland Road, it is likely that he could leave them this summer. The Merseysiders consider the forward as a potential replacement for Sadio Mane, who seems to be on the way out of Anfield to join Bayern Munich shortly.
Is Raphinha necessary?
While we are seemingly set to complete a move for Darwin Nunez from Benfica, his signing is not enough to meet our needs in the forward department. After all, it is not just Mane who is linked with a departure ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Divock Origi is set to join AC Milan on a free transfer, while Takumi Minamino has also attracted interest from several Premier League sides. In such a case, Nunez would not be enough, which is where Raphinha could come in and fill in the gap for us moving forward.
Raphinha’s versatility to play well on both wingers would certainly favour us in the current circumstances, as Harvey Elliott can also be utilised in the forward areas. That being said, it remains to be seen if Jesse Marsch’s side would accept our transfer bid for their star man or not over a summer move.
Even if Marsch’s team accepts our offer, we have other obstacles to overcome that lie in our pathway. That is because Raphinha and his agent Deco have turned down all the proposals that they have received as they are holding out for a move to Barcelona at this point.

Fortunately for us, Barca are going through a financially stricken situation which certainly favours us at the moment. The onus will be on the Reds to drive home that advantage.
While the South American has rejected an approach from us due to his preference of moving to Camp Nou, the situation may not remain the same for longer if Raphinha is eager to leave Leeds at all costs as the La Liga club struggle with their finances.
