Sadio Mane sends warning to Liverpool post transfer to Bayern Munich
In an interview with the Bundesliga media outlet (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane was confident of Bayern Munich’s chances to win against the Reds in the scenario they face each other in the UEFA Champions League.
After six successful years at Merseyside, the Senegalese made the move to the German giants in the summer for a fee worth £35m. The left-winger made 269 appearances for Liverpool, scoring scored 120 goals and getting 48 assists during that time.
He was one of the first major signings Jurgen Klopp had at the club, and was extremely integral to the team’s success over the years. Mane’s last appearance for the Reds came in the loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final in May earlier this year.
He failed to have a telling impact on the game but he remains a legend at Liverpool, helping the Reds win virtually every trophy possible under Jurgen Klopp. However, he believes that this time, he will help Bayern beat LFC if the two teams meet again.
“If we’re going to meet again, of course as Bayern Munich we’d beat Liverpool.”
Mane sounded rather optimistic about his team’s chances and fancied them to get the win over Liverpool in case they meet in the Champions League.
Coincidentally, the last time these two giants faced each other in the competition was in the 2018/19 season, wherein Mane scored one of the best goals of his career at the Allianz Arena in a fixture the reds went on to win 3-0.
Mane had earlier described that goal as his “favourite” but jokingly denied it as he was now team-mates with Manuel Neuer, against whom he scored the goal.
“I said maybe my favourite but now I would say second favourite goal, not my first, because he’s my teammate. No, I’m joking… Of course, I think it was a good goal, kind of a good goal.”
For Bayern, the 30 year old scored one goal out of five in the 3-5 win against RB Leipzig in the DFB Super cup last Sunday.
The Bavarian club last won the Champions League in 2020, a season after Liverpool beat Tottenham by a 2-0 scoreline in Madrid. Since then, Liverpool have also made the final once after that, in 2022.
Only time will tell whether the Senegalese’s claims will come true, something which no true Kopite would want to see. Bayern have lost Robert Lewandowski and the Senegal international has huge boots to fill in that regard.
