Dominik Szoboszlai backed to take giant steps under Jurgen Klopp by Hungary boss
Hungary boss Marco Rossi has backed Dominik Szoboszlai to develop his game further under the tutelage of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
In a sudden turn of events, Liverpool triggered the release clause Szoboszlai had in his contract at RB Leipzig and signed him for £60m.
The 22-year-old, although still a young player by age, is an experienced first-team player in the European circuit. He is also the captain of the resurgent Hungary side on the international stage.
Here’s what Rossi said when asked about Szoboszlai moving to Liverpool (h/t Inside Futbol, via Liverpool Echo):
“Dominik has an interesting profile and I think he will be very important. Liverpool are trying to rebuild their midfield and Dominik Szoboszlai along with Alexis Mac Allister are two fantastic choices.
“Dominik will make the step in his career to become a top player and be recognised all over Europe.
“He is a guy, a player who has improved a lot year after year thanks to his desire to improve every day, every time.”
Szoboszlai made 216 appearances in all competitions in senior football until the end of last season. He scored 62 and assisted 67 goals in that time (Transfermarkt). Those are incredible numbers from a player who has played in a variety of positions in his career so far.
The 22-year-old can play as a number 10, as a wide midfielder on either side or as a winger. He has played as a support striker at times as well.
With Jordan Henderson linked with a move away to Al-Ettifaq this summer, the right-sided midfield role is there for Szoboszlai to take with both hands.
The Hungary captain has the quality on and off the ball to perform that role well. He is at an age where there would be loads of room to improve.
Liverpool boss Klopp is one of the best at developing young players and the same can be done to Szoboszlai. We won’t be surprised if the German uses the player in different midfield positions to get the best out of him.
