A unique dog rule in Saudi Arabia may scupper a deal for Fabinho to sign for Al-Ittihad
As per a tweet from BT3 (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool midfielder Fabinho may not move to Al-Ittihad because of a specific dog rule in Saudi Arabia.
It is claimed that the breed of dog Fabinho keeps is not allowed to enter Saudi as they deem them as dangerous and aggressive. Surprising, isn’t it?
If this deal breaks down due to this reason, it would probably be one of the funniest and weirdest stories of the football transfer market.
But, we have seen funny things happen. This just adds to the drama. Fabinho did not travel with the Liverpool squad for the pre-season camp in Germany to complete this move to Al-Ittihad. It’s been more than a week since that happened and yet the deal is not finalised.
If this potential barrier gets out of the way, the Brazilian would move to Saudi this summer. His departure would benefit Liverpool for £40m, the amount of money that can be used to further bolster the midfield department before the start of the next season.
Provided the 29-year-old leaves Anfield, it would be an end to his five-year stay here. Although his performance levels dipped sharply in the last 18 months, he played a key role in Liverpool winning all the possible club trophies between 2019 and 2022.
Fabinho will always be remembered as the lighthouse of the first great Reds team Jurgen Klopp created since arriving at the club in 2015.
