Real Madrid and Liverpool to go head to head for Real Sociedad Robin Le Normand
Liverpool face potential competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid in their pursuit of Real Sociedad’s defensive star Robin Le Normand.
Both European giants are interested in the 26-year-old centre-back according to TeamTalk (h/t Liverpool.com). According to an earlier report by the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Le Normand is one of Real Madrid’s favoured options as they aim to refresh their ageing backline.
The La Liga side view Le Normand as a potential replacement for veteran Nacho Fernandez, who is set to depart in 2024. But Liverpool have also been credited with monitoring the Spanish defender as Jurgen Klopp eyes defensive additions.
Missing out on Le Normand to Real would sting far less than recent battles for Tchouameni and Bellingham though. Ultimately, Liverpool must simply ensure they recruit the right profile of defender, whether Le Normand or otherwise.
Klopp and the recruitment team have earned trust after constructing an elite attack and midfield. The expectation is they can do the same revamping the defence in upcoming windows.
Le Normand would fit the bill as an imposing, front-foot centre-back entering his prime at 26. His composure on the ball and reading of danger provide a balanced skillset that would suit Liverpool. He could be an ideal replacement for the ageing Virgil Van Dijk.
Real may hold the edge for his signature given their global status and Spanish location. But Liverpool’s project under Klopp could appeal to Le Normand just as much if they firm up interest. The Reds should focus on selling their exciting vision rather than obsessing over beating Real.

With the right pitch, Liverpool can convince Le Normand he needn’t join the Spanish giants to win trophies and develop further. But outmuscling Real for a top target would undoubtedly be a statement of intent by Klopp’s side.
