Owen Hargreaves urges Liverpool to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha
Owen Hargreaves has urged Liverpool to sign talented Fulham defender Palhinha. A defensive midfielder by trade, he is a breed that Liverpool do not have plenty of.
Going into this summer, it was one of the worst kept secrets that Liverpool needed a midfield revamp. Last season was one of the worst of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure and much of it had to do with the dated midfield.
The likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had to leave as the sheep seemed to have sailed on their Liverpool careers. Understandably, all of them left this summer.
However, the more important thing was to bring in the right replacements. The Reds started off the summer by signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai. A number of their primary targets since then chose to join other clubs.
As a last resort, they signed Wataru Endo. Ryan Gravenberch too was signed at the last minute but the Dutchman doesn’t seem like a panic transfer one bit. He has already started off very well at Anfield.
Speaking to Premier League productions as quoted by Liverpool Echo, here is what Owen Hargreaves had to say
“I think they are missing one player and that is a defensive midfield player. I think if Palhinha plays for Liverpool, then they can win the league. He is that good.”
Whilst Wataru Endo is a defensive midfielder and can play the holding role, Jurgen Klopp does not seem ready to start him in every game. Understandably, Liverpool want a top class replacement.
In terms of ability, there are not many players better than Palhinha. The Fulham man is going to get a big move and it’s only a matter of time. Could it be Liverpool though who help him take the next step.
