Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister after thriving as a No.6 for the club this season
Alexis Mac Allister moved to Liverpool from Brighton in a £35m deal on a five-year contract last summer and has quickly earned the trust of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. He helped the Seagulls finish sixth in the Premier League last term as they qualified for Europe for the first time in club history.
The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 112 appearances for Brighton and helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup. Since his transfer to the Reds, Jurgen Klopp has utilised Mac Allister as a defensive midfielder and he has shone in his new role so far.
He has racked up 24 appearances, scored one goal, and provided two assists in all competitions for Liverpool this campaign. The impact he has had cannot be understated and was on full display in the 4-1 mauling of Chelsea.
The Argentina international extended his fine run of form with a sensational display against Chelsea in midweek and Klopp has waxed lyrical about his South American.
“Very. I’m over the moon about it,” the German said at his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game on Sunday as per the club’s official website.
“There are so many things I said about Portuguese players, I could say the… I’m not sure on all Argentinian players, I don’t know that many, but Macca is the same in midfield, just like a football doctor, I don’t know.
“[He is] super-aggressive, super-smart and his contribution for all our play in possession is extremely important.”
Mac Allister was part of the Liverpool midfield revolution that transformed an ageing roster into one of the youngest and best in the league. The Argentine has struggled at times but the ability to pick himself up and step up to play a role the team needs has endeared him to the Reds’ faithful.,
Mac Allister’s performance against Chelsea was particularly telling. After all he outplayed not just his former Brighton compatriot Moises Caicedo but also his international teammate Enzo Fernandez. It is clear now just how much of an impact the Liverpool star had for Argentina and Brighton in 200-23.
