Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez is facing a late fitness test before Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium
24-year-old Liverpool star Darwin Nunez, according to Jurgen Klopp, suffered a foot injury in the 4-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield that required him to wear a protective boot.
He lasted the entire duration of the game as the Reds extended their lead at the summit of the league table. They are now five points clear of Manchester City and the Gunners. Nunez could be a doubt for the game against Mikel Arteta’s side who will be looking for revenge after suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to the Reds in the FA Cup last month.
During his pre-match press conference via the club’s official website on Friday morning, Klopp said:
“I don’t know if Darwin is available or not because after 20 minutes somebody stepped on his foot and it was very painful after the game.
“So, nothing broke, X-ray clear, but [it is] swollen and we have to see if he can get his foot back into a boot or not because we all know that takes time. I did not see him this morning so we have to wait a little bit.”
The issue does not appear to be too serious but given the magnamity of the clash, the Reds need all their top names fit and raring to go. Nunez might not hit his peak yet but his chaos inducing presence is a weapon that sows uncertainity in the rival defence.
Darwin Nunez, meanwhile was pictured on Friday afternoon training with the rest of his teammates. He has netted 11 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions this season for Liverpool. However, he has also struck the woodwork on 12 occasions, including a penalty miss against Chelsea.

Nunez struggled in his debut season at the club following his transfer from Benfica on a six-year deal. The South American scored 15 goals and provided four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season as Liverpool missed out on Champions League qualification.
He has stepped up this season and is one of Liverpool’s most dangerous forwards alongside Mohamed Salah. His ability to create chances for his teammates has seen him become a fan favourite at Anfield. He may not be scoring consistently but his work rate is appreciated by Klopp and the supporters.
