Fabrizio Romano confirms that Martin Zubimendi is keen to make Liverpool switch

Spanish star and Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi wowed English audience when he came off the bench in the Euro 2024 final and shifted the momentum in the Iberian side’s favour. The ‘Scouse, not English’ moniker will certainly be buzzing as the Liverpool faithful will hope that the player will continue to frustrate the rest of England in the years to come.

The 25-year-old could be Liverpool’s first major signing of the summer, but the deal is far from done. The likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all failed in recent attempts to secure the players thanks to his preference to stay put at Real Sociedad.

However, the Reds are confident that a deal can be agreed on and look set to trigger his release clause. Sociedad, for their part, are keen to retain the player and have put on a charm offensive. The ball is now in the player’s court as we enter the final weeks of the 2024 summer transfer window.

While Zubimendi’s reluctance to move has been the decisive factor in other clubs’ failure to land him, the same cannot be said of Liverpool. Fabrizio Romano confirmed (h/t X) that the player views a potential move to Anfield as something special and is tempted to don the famous Red. This will come as music to the ears of Liverpool fans elsewhere.

“The player is really really tempted by this possibility. He believes Liverpool is really something special.”

It appears as if Zubimendi gets what it means to don the famous Red jersey. Arne Slot’s system relies on a technically proficient number six in the middle of the park and the Spanish international fits the bill to a tee. The sooner we can bring him in the better.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that Martin Zubimendi is keen to make Liverpool switch.

With Romano now confirming where the player stands, the onus is on Liverpool to push and get the deal over the line. We can understand Sociedad’s stance as they have already lost Robin Le Normand and are also likely to part ways with Mikel Merino. Losing Zubimendi is the biggest blow of the lot, and they will be keen to do whatever is possible to retain their local star.

Liverpool can take their buildup play up a notch by adding a player of Zubimendi’s profile to their ranks. While a couple more players are needed, signing the Spaniard would be a solid first move for Richard Hughes. All eyes will now be on the events that transpire in Spain as Sociedad and Zubimendi weigh up their options.
