Liverpool star Darwin Nunez delivered an all-round performance for Uruguay against Ecuador in a frustrating 0-0 World Cup qualifier draw. The 25-year-old hit the woodwork as his attacking teammates struggled to complement his strong performance by creating more goalscoring chances.

Furthermore, Nunez’s teammates Maximiliano Araujo, Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Facundo Pellistri struggled to make an impact, isolating the Liverpool forward. Uruguay fans jeered their team after the full-time whistle as they failed to score a goal in their fourth game.

However, Uruguay are still third in the World Cup qualifier standing with 16 points, ahead of Brazil in goal difference. The 25-year-old Liverpool forward returns to the club as the October international break ends, beginning the strenuous congested fixture period.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has preferred Diogo Jota ahead of the Uruguayan during the start of the current season. However, Liverpool faces tough opponents starting from the Chelsea game at Anfield that requires the use of a rotation policy.

Nunez struggled with constant criticism about his inability to finish clear-cut chances since arriving from Benfica in the 2022 summer. However, the 25-year-old has scored a healthy number of goals and provided good assists while delivering all-round performances.

Meanwhile, Jota has enjoyed praise for his finishing ability which is only second to legendary forward Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. Nevertheless, Jota has also faced criticism for his poor influence, only making an impact in the final third.

According to SofaScore, Nunez made 100% successful dribbles while enjoying 80% passing accuracy and delivering one key pass. He created one big chance for his Uruguayan teammates, winning three ground duels and three aerial duels during the game.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old worked hard from the front when his team lost possession, making six clearances and one tackle. Nunez needs to deliver with more composure in front of the goal as this season is a make-or-break season for the Uruguayan forward. Rest assured, Liverpool fans have continued to back the forward to prove his naysayers wrong and outgrow the negative effects of the unnecessary social media condemnation that he has faced.
