Transfer Opinion: Should Liverpool Sign Yaya Toure?

It is going to be a busy summer at Anfield with Jurgen Klopp’s first summer transfer window arriving in a couple of months. Many positions are needed to be strengthened and Klopp must have identified his targets and the players which are needed to be offloaded.

Many midfielders are targeted but the recent name that has been targeted is the Ivorian, Yaya Toure. The 33-year-old is looking for a new club as it is known that he has quite a tumultuous relationship with the next boss who is arriving at the Etihad in the summer, Pep Guardiola.

The duo never got along well and it was Pep who sold Toure to City in 2010. Yaya has become one of the best players to ever play for City and has been instrumental to their rise to the top. Though his form is on a decline this season and looking at his age, it is obvious that he cannot play three games a week.

Yaya Toure is a kind of player who can produce a moment of magic out of nothing and can turn the match on its own. When on song, there are very few players who can produce such displays and that too effortlessly. His agent has claimed that Toure wants to continue playing in England and Liverpool is one of the clubs rumoured to be in the race to sign the Ivorian.

Liverpool’s need of the hour is to sign a defensive midfielder as Lucas Leiva has looked good at times but is not a long-term solution. Yaya Toure is bullied when he is in a two man midfield and often looks a liability when just played with two in the middle of the park. He is a world class entity in a three man midfield or behind the striker but the reds are not looking for a no.10 player.

There is no doubt that Yaya Toure can improve any team that he will go into, but at the moment hid services are not required at the club. It is a mouthwatering opportunity to sign the Ivorian but there are other positions which need urgent strengthening and Klopp needs to find the perfect mix of players to challenge on all fronts next campaign. The huge wages and the signing fee of Yaya Toure can be used where it is really needed at the moment.
