Anfield erupted with jubilation as Klopp’s men staged an unimaginable comeback and won the second leg against Borussia Dortmund 4-3. It was a test of their character and the players did not disappoint at all. Let’s take a look at how the players fared on the big night.

Simon Mignolet – 6

The keeper made a couple of excellent stops but was not able to halt the goal-scoring machine of Aubameyang, Reus, and Mkhitaryan. In the first goal, he made a brilliant save from point-blank range but could not do much on the follow-up.

Nathaniel Clyne – 7

Clyne had a good game and was very effective with the runs on the flank. He also delivered some brilliant crosses inside the box, but couldn’t match the pace of Reus.

Mamadou Sakho – 8

Made some fine tackles inside the box and tried his best to mark and stop Aubameyang. Also scored the crucial third goal and had a great second half.

Dejan Lovren – 8.5

Lovren was not brilliant in defending but was decent. However, he showed a lot of character in the game. Scored the important winning goal right at the end and also delivered a couple of killer crosses in the six-yard box.

Alberto Moreno – 5.5

The left-back did not have the best of his games. He was guilty of losing possession leading to one of the goals and was caught out of position a few times.

Emre Can – 8

Can had an outstanding game in the midfield alongside Milner and ensured that his team keeps moving forward. He created the first goal and had a brilliant second half.

James Milner – 7

He had a decent game. In the first half, there were a lot of gaps in the midfield and Milner was a bit ineffective. But he picked his game up in the second half.

Philippe Coutinho – 8

Coutinho was guilty of giving away possession leading to the first goal but he made up for that with his performance in the later part of the game. He scored a brilliant goal and was a constant threat to the Dortmund defence.

Roberto Firmino – 6

Firmino could not manage to have an impact in front of goal. He was not looking as sharp as he was a few games back.

Adam Lallana – 5.5

He had a few moments in the initial part of the game but later on was a mere spectator and could not create any opportunities for the team.

Divock Origi – 8.5 (Man of the Match)

Origi has been in devastating form since the last three games. He scored the first goal with a clinical finish and was constantly making those runs inside the box. After the introduction of Sturridge, he played the perfect support role up-front.
