Should Klopp Allow This Spanish International To Stay At Liverpool Next Season?

Jurgen Klopp’s juggernaut ended with a disheartening loss in the Europa League final and ended the chances of a European competition next season. The season cannot be termed as a failure because of a lowly eighth finish and two cup final losses but the arrival of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield was the most important thing that happened to the reds in this campaign. The Klopp effect is there for all to see and there is no doubt that Liverpool have the perfect man to bring the glory days back at Anfield.

A lot of players improved under the German’s leadership like Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren who were termed as big money failures, but under him, they have got a new lease of life. Joe Allen is another noteworthy mention to play exceptionally under Klopp and truly deserves a new contract. Many are expected to be offloaded and also the players who have been sent out on loan will be given a chance to impress the boss in preseason and prove a point that they belong to be in the reds’ squad.

One player that will be a curious case to see will be of Spanish playmaker, Luis Alberto. The 23 year old was bought in the famous 2013-14 season from Sevilla but played a bit part role in his first season in Merseyside. He was then loaned out to Malaga but along with injuries and poor form, he could not cement his place in the team. Last season, Alberto was shipped to Deportivo La Coruna and had a terrific season in one of the best leagues in the world.

Alberto was one of the best players for Deportivo, who finished 15th in the league table and survived relegation even after a horrific second half of the season. He was one of the shining lights during their tough run and when he was out with an injury, subsequently the team suffered. He played predominantly on the left side of the attacking midfield and also as a second striker where he formed a lethal partnership with Lucas Perez.

He scored 8 goals and 4 assists this campaign and his agent has confirmed that he will be a part of Liverpool’s preseason and will look to prove his worth in the team. Jurgen Klopp is said to be impressed by the Spaniard but with many options available in the attacking department, Alberto’s future seems to be in danger. He played as a second striker similar to the role of Roberto Firmino but it will be rather impossible to replace Firmino or Coutinho in the team. Also with Adam Lallana in the squad, it’s hard to find a place for Luis Alberto.

Also, with no European competition to look forward to, games will be far less this season so keeping a big squad won’t do any good. Alberto is talented but at the age of 23, another loan deal would be fruitless for both the parties. This season has proved that he can impact in games in the highest level of leagues but not in the highest level of clubs.
