Liverpool Summer Signing Unhappy With His Role In The Club

Liverpool have had a great season so far and most of their players are on fire. The Reds are on top of the Premier League table and have scored the most goals as well but their defence has been a major concern.

The Reds have only kept one Premier League clean sheet all season and they conceded against Watford as well. One player who has lost his place in the starting XI is Ragnar Klavan. The 31-year-old was signed at the start of the season from Augsburg but he hasn’t been a regular due to the pairing of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.

The Estonian, like any professional, is unhappy with his current situation of not playing and was quoted by the Metro as saying:

“If you don’t play, it is unpleasant, but it’s the coach’s decision

“For me, [not starting games] doesn’t mean anything, and I’m not going to analyze it. I have the advantage that I’m old enough to understand the situation. Certainly, it’s different and takes getting used to. Every once in a while, on game day, you expect to play, and if you don’t, there’s a reason for this.”

A surprise for many that Klavan isn’t getting games

The signing of Klavan was a bit of a surprise to be honest, not many had heard of the defender but he did a decent job at the club. It is also a little surprising that the defender expected to play more games at the club, after all, he would have known that he would not be a first team player with Lovren and Matip in the side.

It does make sense for Klavan to be upset since Lucas Leiva was brought on against Watford and not him. There could be some good news for the defender, though, he has played a number of games in the EFL Cup and that could be his best bet now as well.

The Reds are still in the competition and face Leeds United while they haven’t started their FA Cup campaign yet. Klavan hasn’t looked bad this campaign and seems more likely to be a cover for Lovren and Matip, while Mamadou Sakho is sure to leave the club in the winter window.

That shouldn’t affect Klavan’s role at the club and hopefully, he will get a few more appearances under his belt as the Reds march on for what could be their first Premier League title ever.
