Liverpool Injury Update: English Star Steps Up Recovery As He Returns To Training

The international break is always a scary proposition for any league side and it is the same for Liverpool too. The Reds would have kept a keen eye on the various games being played across the world and hoping that their players do not pick up injuries.

So far, it has gone pretty well for the Premier League leaders. Liverpool’s attackers have all been fine and even Daniel Sturridge came off unscathed in the international break as the Reds prepare to face Southampton on Saturday. There are a few injury concerns for the Merseyside club though but it isn’t the biggest worry for the side.

Danny Ings is the player who is out for the entire season and doesn’t seem likely to make an appearance in this campaign. The former Burnley striker picked up his second long-term knee injury under Jurgen Klopp and it certainly was a big blow for the 24-year-old as he had just regained his full fitness and was playing for the reserve side.

Another player who is just making a comeback from a big injury is Sheyi Ojo. The youngster was expected to play many games for the Reds this season after breaking into the first team last time around. But a back injury during preseason cut that short and now the Englishman is close to making a return to training and could feature for the Reds in a month or two.

More good news for Liverpool as a young defender returns

Joe Gomez made his return to the training ground after being out for more than a year. The 19-year-old impressed last season as the left-back and had replaced Alberto Moreno in the side before he too picked up a nasty injury.

The Englishman’s return to the side will be important for Klopp as he looks to add more quality to his defence. While James Milner has done a great job for the Reds this season, Gomez is a more accomplished defender and that certainly will help the Premier League leaders in the long run.

The Reds shouldn’t really have a lot of injuries to deal with his season as they do not have European games. They might still be in the EFL Cup and have the FA Cup also but the Reds are in a strong position to keep their title charge going. As long as they avoid long-term injuries to their preferred XI, Liverpool could end up winning some silverware.
