Liverpool Ladies Sign Talented Former Arsenal Ladies Defender

Former Arsenal defender Casey Stoney has decided to join the Liverpool ladies side after being let go by the Gunners at the start of the month. Back in the second week of November, BBC reported that Casey left Arsenal, and according to the recent report from the Daily Cannon, the 34-year-old has found a new home at Merseyside.

Stoney started her professional career with Arsenal having done stints with the Chelsea ladies side in her youth. The Englishwoman joined the ladies side of the Gunners in 1999 but left them in 2002.

After spells at Charlton, Chelsea and Lincoln, she returned to the Gunners in 2014 but is now set to make Liverpool her new home.

The 34-year-old does have a glittering cabinet of trophies with four FA Women’s Cups, four FA Women’s Premier League Cups and two FA Women’s Premier League National Divisions under her belt.

The English defender has also been a regular for the national side but the 2015 World Cup was her last such tournament as she seemed to concentrate more on league football rather than international football.

Liverpool solidify their defence

The Reds do have some quality at the back with Sophie Ingle and Gemma Bonner and Stoney will have a fight on her hands if she is to claim a starting place in the team.

Liverpool do have a good record of late having won the FA Women’s Super League in 2013 and 2014. Stoney will be looking to help the side add more laurels and hopefully, she can even help the side do well in Europe.

This deal does seem to be a decent one for both parties as the Reds would be bringing a quality defender who does have a lot of experience for free, while Stoney could get a chance to win more under Reds manager Angela Roberts.

Stoney is one of the most capped players for the national side with 118 appearances. She was also the captain of the national side between 2012 and 2014, thus giving her a lot of experience to help Liverpool out. Stoney has also played in the Olympics for the Great Britain side in 2012.

It will be interesting to see just how this plays out for the side but they have gotten someone who can give them a bit more stability at the back. This could be Stoney’s last transfer before her career as a professional football comes to an end and hopefully, it will have a happy ending.
